The Man 'O War mare stood in her stall, pawing the ground impatiently. She snorted heavily as the brisk wind blew by the paddock. She trotted slowly around the fence, her legs extending forward with each passing step. Her name was LSS Radiant Prophecy, but around the stable, she was called Reilly.
Streec was in the kitchen at the time, eating a cream cheese bagle, with a glass of orange juice. He smiled at the thought that finally there wasn't any arguing this morning. Steph, I'm going to the paddock to get Reilly so we can start training this morning alright, I'll be back by 10, he called upstairs as she was getting ready. Alright, she strained as she was in the middle of applying makeup. He walked out the door.
He walked into the paddock, lead chain in hand, Reilly! he called. The mare looked up, recognizing that she was being called, but did not come. He sighed, and so he quietly walked over towards her, she looked at him, and walked over towards him slowly. He breathed heavily for a moment, he didn't want her to get angry at him, and so he slowly but quickly attached the lead chain to her as she looked away. Got you now, he said to her as he walked her over to her stall. She nickered, tossing her head every so often. Stop that.
At her stall, he led her to the side of the stall door, and attached her to the side with the lead. Grabbing the brush, he quickly brushed her down, he didn't want to waste any time. After she was all ready to start training, he walked over to the race track.
He sat deep into the saddle as he began to get into a fast paced trot, since she was a mare, she was already used to this. He sat forward into the saddle, as she transitioned into a canter. Come on baby, come on. Her pace fastened, her breathing becoming hard, her legs extending forward, her dial sweating. He grasped the reins tightly, as he leaned forward, Good, good Her pace began to slow down as he loosened the reins and sat farther back into the saddle. Of course, she was always a little bit stubborn, so she decided to stop.
He sighed, What the heck? Get going, we need to continue. He turned around, and walked back to the gates. We're going to try again. She whinnied loudly at the sound of his voice and the feel of his hand touching her neck.
The gates released and they were off once more, this time around they had already been at a canter, though it had been a little bit slower than normal. She was doing well, although she was slowly growing tired because her legs were repeatedly overextending. Noticing this, Streec slowed her down into a trot to see if the habit improved. After a few minutes, the habit subsided, and they were back into a canter. Keep going, keep going.
He slowed her down into a trot as they approached the last furlong. He dismounted, and grabbed her bridle and led her over to the stalls.
